Description
The Interaction Designer will conceptualize, design and help implement highly engaging and intuitive user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) solutions for the Client's Xplore Digital Library. The Interaction Designer will define user interaction flows, paths, and scenarios; create user interface/interaction wire frames, mockups, and prototypes that reflect latest industry practices and standards; and manage the consistency of user experience deliverables and graphic standards across all projects. 
The Interaction Designer will participate and collaborate in UI/UX design ideation with internal stakeholders and external vendors; undertake user research and present concise recommendations for UI/UX changes; seek out and apply innovative, state-of-the-art UI/UX design concepts and techniques, while keeping in mind different channels such as desktop website, tablets, e-Readers, smartphones, etc.
The Interaction Designer will recommend best practices in UI/UX design and continuously drive excellence in all aspects of the Client's Xplore user interface and experience.
 
The Interaction Designer will assist with documentation of Client's Xplore UI/UX guidelines and specifications, and assist with user research and usability testing efforts.
 
Qualifications
Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Visual Arts or other technical discipline preferred.  Equivalent experience in information technology (IT), human-computer interaction (HCI) or user experience design (UXD) is acceptable.
 
Experience:
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience and accomplishments in user interface (UI) and user experience design (UXD).
  • Highly creative with strong expertise and knowledge of user interface/interaction design methodology and practices.
  • Must have a deep appreciation for clean, simple, usable interfaces and understanding of user-centric interaction design principles.
  • Rock solid skills in graphic design, with an eye for typography, palette development, intuitive layout, and pixel-level attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of web site design, information architecture, navigation, basic usability, and applicable industry standards.
  • Experience in Lean UX practices and working with Agile (Scrum) Development teams.
  • Experience with usability testing and converting user feedback into workable designs.
  • Familiarity with web front-end and presentation layer concepts and technologies.
  • Experience designing for mobile and responsive design.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with both business and technical stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
 
Technology Skills:
  • Hands on experience and proficiency with design software such as Dreamweaver, Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator etc.
  • Experience with Axure, Balsamiq, Omnigraffe, Visio for wireframes and prototyping.
  • Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS/CSS3 and Javascript libraries.
